“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.”
~ Napoleon Hill
There are various definitions of the word “strength”; it can manifest in the physical form and displayed in the ability to perform work and physical tasks. It can also refer to the quality of the mind and how someone deals with problems and certain situations. Both types of strength are extremely important when dealing with adversity; and in order to get stronger, both mentally and physically, we need to stress both systems.
The strength potential of our body is directly related to our total muscle mass. Muscles produce force, and the amount of force exerted on an object over a distance (or period of time) is the very definition of work. If we are able to increase the overall muscle mass of our bodies, the overall potential for strength increases which then results in our ability to do more work over the same period of time, or complete the same amount of work in a shorter period of time.
Increasing muscle mass can be achieved by general strength training or resistance training. Traditionally, strength or resistance training requires the use of an external load (barbells, dumbbells, machines, etc) to increase the demand on the body to perform a given movement. Through a variety of different physiological responses, the body is then adapts to new demands by increasing muscle cross-sectional area, or muscle mass.
The purpose of GET STRONGER is just that; to impose physical demands on the body by using dumbbells, kettle-bells, barbells, machines and other equipment that will force it to adapt through increasing neuromuscular activity, efficiency and cross-sectional area. Any piece of equipment, if used properly, can assist us in the goal of getting stronger; even our own body-weight.
